NVC Meets AI

18:00 CET · 13:00 EDT · 10:00 PDT

Is the use of AI nonviolent? It is a question worth asking slowly. How do these systems actually work? Their foundations were built on copyrighted material, so who was impacted by that, and can we name them? Who carries the environmental cost of the electricity, water, and land that this infrastructure runs on, and are those the same people who see the benefits? Access is not equal either: these tools are not reaching everyone on the same terms, and the gaps that already run along lines of race, geography, and income can be widened by technology as easily as they are narrowed by it.

And there is a genuinely hopeful side. The same tools may close some of the social and economic gaps that have held for generations, putting knowledge, skills, and capabilities within reach of people who were never going to be handed them by an institution. Both of these readings can be true at once.

This subject is enormous, with more aspects than one conversation can settle, and we are not interested in arriving at a verdict of good or bad. We would rather ask what it is being used for, whose needs it serves, who has a voice in the decisions, and how we deal with the regulation now taking shape around all of it.

This is a speaker panel bringing together a range of voices from across the field. We will be hosted by Yoram Mosenzon, who will work to navigate and bridge the different thoughts in the room, to see whether we can reach a place where everyone feels heard, and then move on to what we can actually do with this.

The session is live and open to everyone. You need no technical background, just curiosity. We are still shaping the details, including the full panel line-up, so register and we will email you everything as soon as the picture is complete.
